After a sub-.500 first half of the 2021-22 campaign, the Boston Celtics went on and took the league by storm, as they embarked on one of the greatest mid-season turnarounds in NBA history going 31-10 to finish the regular season and coming within just two wins of taking home their 18th Larry O’Brien trophy.

Though there were several factors that helped the ball club pull off this near-perfect 180, easily one of the biggest was found within the individual play of sixth-year stud, Jaylen Brown.

Coming off of one of the best seasons of his already impressive career, the wing finished things off with stellar per-game averages of 23.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals on 47 percent shooting from the floor and 36 percent shooting from deep.

The 2021 All-Star and 2022 All-Star snub then went on to keep up his high level of play throughout the team’s astounding playoff run and, in some ways, was argued as being the favorite to win Finals MVP should the Boston Celtics have managed to pull out the series victory against Golden State, especially with his scoring heroics on nights when fellow star Jayson Tatum couldn’t hit a shot.

Now, to the vast majority of fans and media pundits alike, Jaylen Brown is the quintessential centerpiece for this roster alongside JT, and can only help the C’s chances of getting back to the big stage as soon as next season with him remaining in tow.

However, as of late, some unsettling reports and rumblings have begun to surface stating that the 25-year-old may be feeling ‘disrespected’ by the team’s fanbase after some recent engagement on social media.

More recently, perhaps the most depleting bit of information pertaining to this situation was disclosed late last week on WEEI radio, as Jermaine Wiggins of The Greg Hill Show shared a story about a recent encounter he had with the star and insinuated that he may be tired of being known as ‘second fiddle’ to Tatum in Boston:

"“I saw Jaylen Brown the other night,” Wiggins said. “Let’s just say we were at a Hookah spot, you know, chopping it up. Let’s just say we were in the same spot, I’m no snitch… All I’m saying is Jaylen Brown wants his own identity, and he ain’t getting that here.”"

Wiggins would then go on to follow this comment up with a correlation with the situation going on in Brooklyn right now with Kevin Durant and insinuated that a trade for the megastar (which would all but guarantee Brown being borough bound) could wind up benefiting both the Boston Celtics as well as the wing:

"“If he goes to Brooklyn, he becomes the guy. That team is now built around him,” Wiggins said. “Now, Brooklyn has a team that they can build around a young star, in their mind, in Jaylen Brown. Jaylen Brown gets out of the shadow of Jayson Tatum, and he can now run his own team. Perfect for everybody.”"

Now, for those of you who have been following our coverage of the Durant hoopla and his ties with the Boston Celtics, you’re likely already aware that we think, though he’s clearly one of the greatest players to ever lace them up and is the greatest scorer in league history, Brad Stevens pursuing such a transaction would be a grave mistake for a multitude of reasons and, easily the biggest is the fact that they’d almost certainly have to part ways with the likes of Brown in the process.

Still on the right side of his 20’s and under a rather team-friendly contract through 2024 considering his production and established star status, him running alongside his fellow Jay-team member (also in his early 20’s) not only sets the Celtics up for success in the now but, if they can remain together, for the long-haul as well.

As far as we at HH are concerned, Jaylen Brown is not just the No. 2 within the C’s pecking order behind Tatum. Instead, he is a No. 1 option along with him, as this rotation is lucky enough to have two of such talents.

Boston fans need to start acknowledging this luxurious truth instead of churning out the drivel some of them have been so that he can finally start to receive the love and praise from the franchise’s faithful that he truly deserves.
