Boston Celtics dud: Derrick White

Wednesday we saw Derrick White have himself yet another rough overall outing and, as a result, he finishes with the moniker of “dud” for the second-straight outing.

Though the point guard proved to have an immediate impact upon arriving in eastern Massachusetts at this year’s trade deadline, showing off his high-impact two-way skills and the ability to take on a larger role within the rotation when need be, his latest two-game stretch couldn’t be farther away from the play that made him an ideal sixth-man option for the squad.

Despite logging over 21 minutes on the night, the point guard was virtually a non-factor on the game, especially when it came to the scoring department.

All season long White’s shooting stroke has been in a slump, but since arriving in Boston it has seemingly managed to sink even lower as he’s only been converting on 40.5 percent of his attempts from the field and even worse 24.6 percent shooting from deep.

Against the Warriors, we saw a continuation of his shooting woes, as he went 0-for-8 from the field, five of which came from beyond the arc. With this, it marks his second game in a row where he’s missed all of his 3-point attempts (0-for-9 during this stretch).

Now, though White did manage to do a bit of work in the facilitation game, dishing out four assists on the night, none, except the dish to Daniel Theis in the second, were anything all that impressive, as the majority were just simple finds to an already wide-open spot-up shooter.

While Derrick White has never been known for being a lights-out offensive specimen, his shooting rut has proven to be somewhat problematic as of late and, in order for the Boston Celtics to have a strong chance of embarking on a deep postseason run, the veteran will need to try and find a way to climb out of it.
