Boston Celtics dud: Derrick White

Since his arrival to the team at this year’s trade deadline, Derrick White has proven to be a true difference-maker for this Boston Celtics squad and, as a result, during this time span the C’s bench unit has wound up going from 15th in the league to third overall in terms of NET Rating.

This is by no means a coincidence that their second unit has taken such a large jump throughout his tenure with the ball club.

Having said that, though his impact on the shamrocks overall has been impressive and quite noticeable, during their matchup against the Mavericks it was virtually nonexistent.

Despite the fact that he wound up playing 22 minutes on the night, it was rather easy to forget that White was on the active roster for, simply put, he couldn’t get anything going on the day.

Boasting a lowly stat-line of just five points and four boards on a highly inefficient 20 percent shooting from the floor, the veteran guard proved to be an overall negative for the Celtics, finishing with a -6 plus-minus rating along the way.

Though we at HH are still true fans of Derrick White and believe that he’s a perfect addition to this team, when you go just 2-for-10 shooting from the floor, 0-for-4 shooting from deep, and struggle mightily to stay with your assignments on defense & commit numerous avoidable fouls (finished with three in this department), you run the risk of being viewed as a true dud, and that’s exactly what the 27-year-old proved to be.
