Boston Celtics: 3 takeaways from C’s wire-to-wire win over Miami
Boston Celtics takeaway No. 3) An extremely tight rotation
Despite leading by 25+ midway through the fourth quarter, the Boston Celtics only had eight players see the floor. This shows both the lack of trust coach Udoka has in his young players along with the team’s tendency to blow leads no matter how big they are.
With changes coming, the Boston Celtics are going to have to trust a combination of Aaron Nesmith, Romeo Langford, and Payton Pritchard down the stretch, for the team can’t go with an eight-man rotation forever.
Players such as Nesmith and Langford have shown flashes, and will only get better with playing time. Giving them inconsistent looks will only be detrimental to their overall development, as both, but especially Nesmith, need to get into an offensive groove.
They haven’t been completely unplayable, but coach trusts Josh Richardson more which, though perhaps a bit annoying, is valid. However, with players such as Schroder and perhaps Al Horford being moved in the near future, minutes will be opened up, hopefully for some young former first-rounders.
The Boston Celtics got one of their most comfortable wins of the year Monday night, so there’s not too much to complain about in terms of short rotations, but it is a worrying trend considering the length of an NBA season.
