Boston Celtics Dennis Schroder PG trade option #2: Monte Morris

Many of the same principles of the Dennis Schroder-T.J. McConnell swap apply here, though the situations aren’t exactly the same.

The Denver Nuggets are in a far better position than the Indiana Pacers are. Nikola Jokic is the reigning MVP, earning 91 of the 101 eligible votes, and even with injuries keeping Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. out of the lineup, the Nuggets are still within reach of home-court advantage in the Western Conference playoffs.

A trade for the Nuggets would be a cost-cutting move in the same vein, though, as Dennis Schroder’s deal would provide immediate salary relief following the 2021-22 season. They just inked Porter to a five-year max extension, so they could use Schroder as a stop-gap until Murray comes back. After this year, they can choose to re-sign Facundo Campazzo as their primary backup point guard while sending Morris to Boston.

Morris is a guard capable of starting for the Cs in the future, especially because of his steady improvement in the facilitation department. He’d be cost effective for the three years he has left on his current deal. If he can get his 3-point conversion rate back to where its been in years’ past, he’d be an upgrade in the backcourt.
