Why the Boston Celtics do it

Again, putting Ben Simmons alongside Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum is the goal, not losing Brown in any capacity. This deal forces them to give up more than the previous, but at least this one results in Marcus Smart and Robert Williams not wearing purple and gold.

Why the Philadelphia 76ers do it

Brandon Ingram is a much preferable piece to acquire than Russell Westbrook for the Philadelphia 76ers. His cap figure is far lower, and his career trajectory is heading in the right direction.

This deal, like the last, simply adds Ingram to the current Sixers mix, which is working out quite well so far in 2021-22. His 3-point efficiency (45.5% in 2021-22) would add a new dynamic to the Sixers offense that could potentially make them deadly.

Why the New Orleans Pelicans do it

Who would have imagined the New Orleans Pelicans struggling so much without Zion Williamson early here in the 2021-22 season?

A league-worst 1-10 record has this team in need of any sort of shakeup, and perhaps building around Williamson with complementary pieces like Marcus Smart and Robert Williams could get the team in the right direction when he returns.
