Why the Boston Celtics do it

This deal may be more amenable to the Cs if they value what Bruno Fernando did in Summer League and what they envision him accomplishing in green.

It’d be less so if Brad Stevens plans on building this team through the draft. A second rounder in the 40’s is more valuable than it used to be considering the considerable talent from all over the world that is now draft eligible.

Then again, Stevens is the one without leverage in this situation. Clearly Favors is valuable enough to the Thunder to be starting. Hernangomez’ value has dropped since losing a starting role and being benched in Boston.

The loss of a second-round sweetener is sweetened itself by consolidating roster spots here as the Thunder would take the expiring deal of Enes Kanter–another frequent member of Ime Udoka’s DNP-CD club–as well.

Why the OKC Thunder do it

To reunite with Enes Kanter of course. The Turkish center has made a return stop to the Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers already, so why not add OKC?

On a more serious note, this is what Sam Presti does: stockpile assets.

And again, Juan Hernangomez may end up being a good fit for the Thunder and vice versa. In the end, Presti ends up happy with yet another pick.
