Boston Celtics PF Juan Hernangomez

Juan Hernangomez started the preseason off as the starting power forward for the Boston Celtics. Based off of what Brad Stevens was saying coming into the preseason, it appeared as though Hernangomez was slated to be a primary role player in Boston this season:

"…with all the attention that Jayson and Jaylen get specifically, the right time to cut is an important quality. And so that’s one of the many things that drew us to him."

Grant Williams proved to be a fine complement to the ‘Jays’ after getting the surprise start on Wednesday. He knocked down the corner 3-pointer and was a perfect decoy for the offense.

Hernangomez probably had designs of being that player instead, and he still can be with a standout performance when he gets the chance. Friday could be that chance, but that may only occur if either team can take control of the game and get the garbage time players on the floor.

With Hernangomez on an expiring deal, Ime Udoka will probably find more ways to get Romeo Langford and Aaron Nesmith on the floor, and unlike Grant Williams, he isn’t best physical enough to be a small-ball center for any extended stretch.

While ‘Juancho’ probably won’t be the rotation staple we at HH envisioned him to be, he can still carve out some sort of role and tonight could be the start of that mission.
