Boston Celtics get a much-needed upgrade in the bench scoring department

Along with the likes of Thaddeus Young, there’s been one other player that we at the Houdini have oft found ourselves discussing as a great grab in a transaction involving the $17 million TPE that the Boston Celtics possess, and that man’s name is Terrence Ross.

Like Young, the veteran wing, too, finds himself stuck on a rebuilding roster, for the Orlando Magic had themselves somewhat of a fire sale at last year’s trade deadline, shipping off their main talents of Nikola Vucevic (sent to the Bulls), Aaron Gordon (sent to Nuggets), and Evan Fournier (sent to Celtics).

Now, it would appear that Ross is the odd-man-out in their rotation, for he’s a highly productive 30-year-old whose skill set would be best served on a legitimate contender’s roster, not on a likely bottom feeder such as the Magic.

Because of this, the Boston Celtics should strongly consider pursuing him this season, and could even get a deal off prior to October 20th’s tip-off should they play their cards right.

Here, we find a package obviously involving a pick heading Orlando’s way — top-eight protected — as well as Boston’s 2019 lottery selection in Romeo Langford who, though has been rather inconsistent during his tenure in the association, is still only 21, has shown flashes of being quite a multifaceted talent on both ends of the court, and just showed out in the Summer League (averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists on 38.5 percent shooting from deep).

With proper development on a rebuilding team, Langford could actually find himself becoming the type of player many envisioned him to be in the league when he was viewed as a lottery prospect coming in just three years ago.

As for the Celtics, obviously, they get Terrence Ross who, without a doubt, would be an absolute gem for them to have coming off the bench and filling out their surprisingly lackluster wing depth behind the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

A dream TPE target for the shamrocks, just last season we saw the 10th year veteran posting impressive per-game averages of 15.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

What’s more impressive is, since 2018, the wing finds himself boasting averages of 15.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor and 36 percent shooting from deep while predominantly coming off the bench.

For a team that ranked 28th in points per game and 23rd in offensive rating by last season’s end, this efficiency would be an absolute blessing to bring aboard.
