Boston Celtics free-agent target #1: James Ennis

James Ennis is exactly the type of player the Boston Celtics need to fill up their bench unit with. His playstyle is similar enough to Semi Ojeleye, but he also possesses that veteran grittiness that this team desperately needs.

Just take a look at the bubble last year. When the Magic took on the Bucks in round one it was Ennis who gave Orlando a much-needed spark.

He’s not afraid of anybody on the court and will provide the intensity that Boston Celtics fans yearned for all season. Sometimes a team needs a player who can fire up the rest of the players by getting a meaningless tech, and Ennis would be able to do that.

He averaged 8.4 points and 4 rebounds in only 24 minutes a night on 43.3 percent shooting from 3-point range. Over the last few years, he turned himself into a reliable shooter from deep.

Defensively, Ennis’ versatility is what makes him so valuable. He spent time playing the two, three, and four this past season and can guard each of those positions. Most importantly, he’s not afraid to be aggressive.

At the start of next season, he will be 31 years old and entering his eighth NBA season. His grittiness, intensity, and versatility all make him the ideal target for Brad Stevens this offseason.
