Trade target unlikely for the Boston Celtics #1: Jerami Grant

Hardwood Houdini’s own Andrew Di’Iorio tackled the Jerami Grant debate this morning, and did a good job explaining why it’s not likely for him to be dealt by Detroit:

"Trading their best player only half a year into his three-year contract would not only make little sense but would be a terrible look for the organization. Grant has been outspoken about his reasons for choosing Detroit over a return to Denver, and to trade him this soon would diminish any chance at signing quality free agents in the future. It makes sense to keep the forward around to help build around their younger core of Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, and their upcoming high draft pick in the 2021 class."

Grant was seen as an overpay in the offseason, and he has plenty of time to prove that to be true. He and Detroit seem likely to stick together for now.

Trade target unlikely for the Boston Celtics #2: P.J. Tucker

P.J. Tucker would be a fantastic fit for the Boston Celtics, but it appears unlikely that he will end up in Beantown. Tucker was not listed in the latest report on which teams are inquiring about Houston’s stretch-big.

If Tucker is bought out, Boston isn’t the most attractive option. Los Angeles is in the driver’s seat for a potential Tucker deal unless the Cs overpay.

Which they shouldn’t.

Trade target unlikely for the Boston Celtics #3: Evan Fournier

Evan Fournier is a good fit for Brad Stevens’ rotation due to his catch-and-shoot abilities. His $17 million salary is one that the team could take on, and they could likely retain him at a smaller number in the offseason with his bird rights.

That said, with only one chance to use their historic TPE, using it on Fournier would be a mild disappointment.
