Why the Boston Celtics do it

Forbes’ Morten Jensen projected Troy Brown Jr. to be a future NBA break-out back in March after the season had been suspended and before it had been announced to return at Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports complex, citing his improved offensive game to complement his defensive reputation:

"This year, his second with the Wizards, he hit 34.5 percent of his triples on 2.4 attempts per game, while having increased the speed on his release. While he doesn’t project to be a particularly effective pull-up three-point shooter, Brown did hit 39.3 percent on catch-and-shoots, providing him the chance to space the floor moving off the ball. That doesn’t mean Brown’s offensive role should be in any way limited to spotting up for three-pointers, as that would be a waste of his skills. On the ball is where he gets interesting as far as ball-handling and playmaking goes. He already had solid handles in college, being the Ducks’ primary play-initiator. But much like his shooting, Brown has sped things up as a ball-handler where he now will dribble the ball up the court in the pros and create scoring opportunities for himself, especially going to the basket where he went unassisted on over 42 percent of his lay-ups. In over 1,500 minutes played this year, Brown caused just 16 turnovers off losing control of the basketball."

Brown is a two-way baller with the potential to grow into a foundational piece on any team he plays on. Danny Ainge should make sure it’s the Boston Celtics.

Why the Washington Wizards do it

Washington is a team teetering on the brink of a rebuild after giving up a draft pick to acquire Russell Westbrook. Acquiring a first-round pick in any deal for anyone is exactly what the team needs to consider to save face for that awful deal.
