Why the Boston Celtics do it

Jarrett Culver didn’t have the greatest rookie season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Nate Ackert of Dunking With Wolves still believes he has trade value:

"At this point in his career, Culver is a solid rotational NBA wing. He is strong defensively, athletic, and his physicality has only improved. However, he struggled offensively in his rookie year in Minnesota, averaging 9.2 points on 29.9 percent from three and 46.2 percent from the free throw line. Even with a rocky rookie season, Culver showed some of his significant upside and that should translate to value on the trade market."

The Houdini believes so too, and the Timberwolves do profile as a team that Boston can do business with.

Why the Minnesota Timberwolves do it

The reason business can be done between these two teams is because the Timberwolves could use a player exactly like Robert Williams. Minnesota is missing a backup center after the moves they made this offseason, having sent Omari Spellman to the New York Knicks.

Ed Davis is the current starting center and Karl-Anthony Towns could play some minutes at the 5, but Williams would be a long-term answer that the team would likely be willing to pony up to maintain should he be a snug fit alongside the Towns-D’Angelo Russell-Anthony Edwards trio.

Semi Ojeleye and a 2021 second-round pick should get the deal done.
