Getting Hayward to Indiana

The first deal listed is one that falls in line with the constant offseason chatter linking Gordon Hayward to the Indiana Pacers, with the Hoosier State product returning home to the Circle City. Alongside his $34 million expiring deal, Indiana acquires two first-round picks.

The Boston Celtics of course land Jrue Holiday, and also add an intriguing bench scorer in Jeremy Lamb. New Orleans lands Victor Oladipo and Romeo Langford.

Why the Boston Celtics do it

Jrue Holiday would be a fascinating addition for a Boston Celtics team that ranked in the bottom six in assists across the association. Giving up Hayward and two first-round picks in a shallow draft should be justified by not only Holiday in a Cs uniform but the explosive second-unit scoring stylings of Jeremy Lamb as well.

Why the New Orleans Pelicans do it

New Orleans wants to offload Holiday, and Victor Oladipo may want out of Indiana as well. While the Pelicans just went through the trauma of seeing Anthony Davis want out before the end of his contract, they did not have Zion Williamson yet. The 2019 #1 overall pick changes things for the Pelicans.

Romeo Langford is a solid throw-in for Boston as someone who can grow alongside Jaxon Hayes and Williamson as class of 2019 draftees.

Why the Indiana Pacers do it

As long as Oladipo wants out, the asking price won’t be as high for Indiana as they will be negotiating with a lack of leverage in any deal. Hayward and a pair of first-round picks is definitely enticing enough of a package to also lose Jeremy Lamb.
