Weaken LA

Usually, this sort of non-x’s and o’s related pettiness is saved for the final slide, but in this particular circumstance it is downright imperative to address the elephant in the room: the Los Angeles Lakers now also being 17x NBA Champions.

That is an absolute heart-breaking statement for longtime Boston Celtics fans, and the fact that banner #17 was raised by LeBron James–perhaps the greatest singular modern rival of the Cs–and Anthony Davis–a frequent trade target who Danny Ainge ultimately passed on–is salt in the wound for a season that lost promise on several different occasions.

Rondo winning his second ring was at least visually pleasing compared to every other aspect of the 2020 Lakers title won in the Lake Buena Vista bubble on Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports campus.

That said, one of the greatest benefits of a Rondo reunion would be the direct effect it would have on the Lakers’ chances of repeating in 2021. Luckily, the odds seem stacked against Los Angeles (and in many ways tangentially against the Cs) with the 2020-21 NBA season being projected to start in Late December-January.

A Rondo signing would seal the deal as far as being behind the 8-ball next season in Tinseltown.
