Team who could trade down with the Boston Celtics No. 2) Golden State Warriors

Ok, so you remember the reasoning we gave for the Wizards as to why they may be interested in trading down with the Boston Celtics? You know, about how they may be in line for a postseason run in 2020-21 and might want to better fill out the roster some more?

Well, that same argument goes for the Golden State Warriors, but amplified by a million.

Frankly, the only reason why the Dubs ended up with such a high pick in this year’s draft was due to injuries. Of their centerpieces in Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson, Green played the most total games with 43.

Curry, who is a top-3 player in the association when healthy, went down with a hand injury early in the season and wound up playing just five games in total. As for Thompson, he missed the entirety of the year as he was still in the midst of rehabbing from his torn ACL suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals.

In short, this putrid 15-win season will undoubtedly wind up being an anomaly, as their core is expected to head into the 2020-21 campaign fully healthy and ready to go. Because of this, it should be seen as an inevitability that the Warriors will once again be seen as one of the top title-favorites in the league, which would constitute the label of a “win now” mentality.

Because of this, they could opt to cancel out the prospect of bringing on a top-flight rookie to mold for the future and, instead, use it to add players who could aid in their quest for their fourth championship in seven seasons.

That said, there is also the idea of Golden State wanting to have their cake and eat it to, if you will. By this, we mean, they might want to have the ability to add both players to help them win in the immediate future while also bringing on rookies to help them prolong their success into the next era.

The Boston Celtics could certainly help with that.

Rostering quite a few players who could help any team in their efforts of winning now such as Enes Kanter, Daniel Theis, Gordon Hayward, and — though we hope this wouldn’t be the case — Marcus Smart, with the right combination of players coupled with the C’s 3 first-rounders could be enough to push the needle for the Warriors to pull the trigger on a roster bolstering deal such as one in which Danny Ainge could concoct.
