Mo Bamba

We here at HH have long coveted Mo Bamba as a potential addition to the Boston Celtics lineup. The #6 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft has had the unfortunate experience of being relegated to the bench because of the All-Star emergence of Nikola Vucevic.

Bamba came out of the University of Texas with a sky-high ceiling and a radio hit song flooding the airwaves. To say his career has been underwhelming so far is an understatement. Being a per-36 minute star is a fun way to keep fans of a rebuilding franchise filled with hope.

Orlando made it clear they were no longer rebuilding when they committed big money to Vucevic and Terrance Ross this past offseason. Their previous investments in Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon support the notion that they have been trying to field a winner for several seasons.

Bamba could be a starter in Boston. As well as Theis has been playing, there really isn’t a realistic way he’d be able to outplay Bamba in training camp. The C’s starting lineup would immediately benefit from having an elite lob threat, and as his already impressive frame continues to fill out, Bamba will able to hold his own against any opponent and give the Celtics a steady presence in the middle…one that is under team control beyond next season, unlike Theis.
