Udoka Azubuike, C

Next up, we have a player at a position the Boston Celtics should strongly consider upgrading this offseason… just not with him.

Udoka Azubuike proved to be an absolute force for the Kansas Jayhawks during his four years with the university. In his senior season, Azubuike put up career best numbers of 13.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game on a whopping 75 percent shooting from the field.

At 7-0, 250 pounds the 20 year old proved to be the most menacing defensive presence the collegiate game had to offer in 2019-20 and, thanks to his impressive play, won Big-12 Player of the Year honors.

Yup, Udoka Azubuike has the makings of a legitimate top-5 draft pick… if it were 1987. In the NBA game of today, the center truly doesn’t stand a chance of being a consistent rotation player.

I truly mean no disrespect to the man. In fact, watching him play has always been a fun experience. His strength in the post, impressive defensive instincts and his power when flushing it home at the rim has always been a welcoming sight to see when watching Kansas over the past few year.

However, when taking into account how little he can do offensively when outside of four feet from the rim, how underwhelming his footwork is and his lack of speed one could strongly make the argument that Azubuike is not a first round talent at all.

We already have projects in Robert Williams and Tacko Fall at the position. Why would we add another with no greater potential than either of them?

Again, no disrespect is intended. We’re not saying Udoka Azubuike can’t find his way into an NBA team’s rotation. We’re just saying, there’s no way he’d find one with the Boston Celtics, what with the other raw prospects they already have in tow.
