Kyrie Irving-Anthony Davis super-duo

The first alternate reality we have is the oft-mentioned Kyrie Irving-Anthony Davis pairing serving as the core for a Celtics team that lacks depth but is heavy on stars. There were rumors last season that Irving had reached out to Davis about a potential pairing in Boston.

Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari went into detail as to what a deal would like like:

"Boston has several young, talented players, and it stands to reason that Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier would serve as the centerpieces of a potential Davis trade. If the Celtics can land Davis while still retaining Irving, Gordon Hayward and Jayson Tatum, the Golden State Warriors may finally be faced with an opponent that has a better and deeper starting lineup."

It isn’t likely that the C’s could have landed Davis without giving up at least Brown, Rozier, Jayson Tatum and draft picks. Imagining that scenario, the Boston Celtics would have still had Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward and even Al Horford.

Could the 2018-19 Boston Celtics have gone to the NBA Finals with a starting lineup of Irving-Smart-Hayward-Davis-Horford and Brad Wanamaker, Aron Baynes and Semi Ojeleye coming off the bench?

Maybe.
