Semi Ojeleye

Semi Ojeleye has been a beacon of consistency for the Boston Celtics since he was drafted in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft. If the season were to end today, it’d be hard to find a reason not to have Ojeleye on the roster for the 2020-21 season.

Though he has never played a substantial role for the C’s, he has experience under Brad Stevens through thick and thin. In his first season, he saw fellow draft class mate Jayson Tatum rise to the national spotlight in the Eastern Conference Finals going toe-to-toe with LeBron James. The team survived Kyrie Irving‘s injury and had other playoff heroes rise in Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier.

Ojeleye played over 29 minutes in the first round’s series against the Milwaukee Bucks, guarding Giannis Antetokounmpo in the team’s pivotal game seven victory. He also added 15 minutes as a plus-25 box plus/minus in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals.

He then survived a 2018-19 team that was filled with toxicity across the locker-room. His impact was more muted in the 2019 playoffs. In 2019-20, Ojeleye is averaging a career-high 37 percent from the 3-point line. If the season is over, he has earned another shot with the C’s and may benefit from the future of the NBA being uncertain.
