Marcus Smart lost his cool

It is a terrible look for a team when one of their main contributors is seen being held back by coaches as he is barking at the officials following a game. Even if the referees may have been in the wrong on several calls, players need to keep their cool in such scenarios.

Marcus Smart lost his cool in a big way on Tuesday night, and it may have dire consequences given the lack of able bodies the Boston Celtics were already going to have tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

If Smart is suspended, he will potentially be joining Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum on the inactive list against the Cavaliers. All four of those players are dealing with health-related issues (although Tatum may be dealing with taking too many shots off the court to celebrate his 22nd birthday).

To lose the last remaining able body of the team’s best five due to a lack of self-control is disappointing at best and mortifying at worst. Remember, last night’s loss knocked them back a game from the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference. The difference between the #6 and #7 seeds in a potential playoff matchup is vast.

Hopefully Smart isn’t given any lengthy suspension (or a suspension at all) and the team is able to put a halfway decent lineup on the floor in Cleveland tonight.
