Golden State Warriors

The rest of this season for the Golden State Warriors is going to be a “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” approach. They occupy the basement in the Western Conference and could easily be surpassed by the Atlanta Hawks and fall into the league cellar as the biggest losers of the 2019-20 season.

That would actually be the best course of action for the former juggernaut. After dominating the 2010’s, it is strange to be talking about the Warriors in this light, but their approach this season could lead to an even scarier team in 2020-21 after having a top-four pick in the draft and having a healthy Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

Rumors have swirled that the team may be inclined to deal D’Angelo Russell in a deal that nets the team Ben Simmons. If Golden State can land Simmons, they may have a chance at flipping him in a year if Giannis Antetokounmpo feels he can’t win in Milwaukee and seeks a chance to be a part of a new Warriors dynasty.

Before I get too far ahead in the hypothetical, let me get back to the point: Williams would be a perfect fit alongside the Splash Brothers. As a shot-blocking extraordinaire and elite alley-oop finisher, life would be very easy for Williams in the bay. He could spend this season playing in the pick-and-roll with Russell before joining an actual contender next season.

As for the Boston Celtics, dealing Williams could be a chance to improve their draft stock while also reeling in veteran wings like Alec Burks or Glenn Robinson II. Either player plus a second rounder would be a worthy return for the “Time Lord”.
