Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have an urgent need for a center after center Dwight Powell went down in a recent contest against the Los Angeles Clippers with a torn Achilles.  With Maxi Kleber being the only viable pivot on the roster behind him on the depth chart, there is a bit of panic setting in with Dallas.

Williams wouldn’t immediately fill that need, with the “Time Lord” set to miss more time. His return may not come until after the All-Star break in mid-February. It’ll be on Luka Dioncic and Kristaps Porzingis to keep the team afloat until then.

If the Slovenian-Latvian connection could keep the ship afloat in an increasingly competitive west, Williams could well be the boost needed when he returns on a Mavericks team that lacks athleticism relative to contenders like the Lakers, Clippers and Rockets.

Williams would be a glove fit as a low-usage rim-runner in a Dallas offense that relies heavily on their two stars. With respect to Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier, Williams has never played with a star with the distributing abilities of Dioncic. With the reigning rookie of the year continually on the rise, the springy center may be able to raise his profile as well.

No team is a better fit right now than the Mavericks, and no team offers a clearer path to big minutes than Dallas. If the Boston Celtics could snag a player like Dorian Finney-Smith in a deal, it is definitely worth exploring sending the “Time Lord” to join a burgeoning young contender like the Mavs.
