Brittney Griner

To start off this exercise, we start off with the woman who has been most closely linked to the NBA since she came out of college. Back in 2013, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban publicly stated that he would be willing to give Brittney Griner a shot to prove herself in the NBA:

"“If she is the best on the board, I will take her,” Cuban said before the Mavs’ Tuesday night game against the Los Angeles Lakers. “I’ve thought about it. I’ve thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I’d lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it. You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it’s not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it.”"

Ahead of his time, Cuban said he’d have “no problem whatsoever” with giving the reigning seven-year WNBA blocks leader a chance in the world’s premier basketball league. Now, after Bryant’s most recent comments, we believe the Boston Celtics could be an ideal landing spot for the generational talent.

Through her illustrious career, Griner has established herself as one of the best players currently in the WNBA. She has accumulated various honors such as six All-Star appearances, five All-WNBA team selections, two Defensive Player of the Year awards and, perhaps the highest honor, a WNBA Championship.

Most recently, we saw the 6-9 Baylor product boast stellar averages of 20.7 points (lead the league), 7.2 boards and two blocks (lead the league) per game on 56% shooting from the floor. She has made a name for herself as being a high flying, athletic and all-around spectacular big over her impressive seven-year career.

With the fact that the C’s could use some bolstering in the front court, perhaps taking a shot at one of the WNBA’s most talented players may not be such a bad idea for Danny Ainge and co. She’d bring a solid defensive presence to go along with a knack for scoring and championship experience to this young and soaring Boston Celtics squad.
