Christian Wood

One specific Detroit Pistons big-man has been linked to the Boston Celtics in recent weeks. While we here at the Houdini do believe that Andre Drummond would be a very beneficial addition for the C’s lineup, this piece is dedicated to buy-low candidates and, make no mistake about it, the asking price for Drummond would be far from low.

However, there is another center in Motor City that, at least as far as this article is concerned, fits the bill as a perfect candidate for the Celtics in the trade department.

Currently playing for his fifth NBA team in as many years, Christian Wood has performed quite well in limited action with the Pistons. Through 39 games, the 24-year-old has averaged 9.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and just under a block in just 16.8 minutes per game.

He has shot efficiently, registering at 57% from the field and 37% from deep and has become a quality role player for the underwhelming Pistons.

He has shown in the past — specifically last season with the Pelicans — that, when handed extended playing time, he can perform at an extremely high and effective level. Though in a small sample size of eight games with New Orleans, the center managed to average and impressive 16.9 points, 7.9 boards and 1.3 blocks while shooting 53% from the field in 23.6 minutes per game.

Similar to Moritz Wagner, he would certainly help bolster the C’s center rotation if acquired, and would help improve their long range game along the way. Christian Wood is an intriguing prospect who, in theory, should not take much for the Celtics to land in a potential deal.
