Moritz Wagner

Did you really expect a trade piece that didn’t include a big man? Here, we look a Moritz Wagner, backup center for the Washington Wizards.

In year two — and on his second team — Wagner has etched out a solid amount of playing time, and has produced accordingly. Through 21 games, the 22-year-old has managed to put up averages of 11.6 points and six rebounds on 58% shooting from the field in 20 minutes of action.

He has proven to be a valuable asset for the Wizards in 2019-20, and has become quite a reliable stretch-big, as he’s managed to shoot at a clip of 39% from downtown. With what he provides on the court, coupled with the position that he plays, he could certainly be seen as an intriguing young prospect for the Boston Celtics.

As previously mentioned, Wagner has been a very consistent long-range shooter for Washington so far this season. With him in tow, he most certainly would be seen as an improvement, not just in the front court, but for the team as a whole for, on the season, Boston has shot a not so impressive 35% from downtown as a unit.

Their bench unit, which is probably where the Michigan product would fit best if acquired in 2020, shoots an even worse 30% from deep. Couple this with the fact that the best 3-point shooting center on the team currently is Daniel Theis (27%) and it is apparent that you’d be improving at this aspect of the game that is extremely vital in the modern NBA.

Moritz Wagner is by no means a “game changing” player at this point in his career. However, with what he brings to the table along with how young he is, he could be an intriguing big the Celtics could look into acquiring by the deadline.
