Darren Collison

After a brief stint of retirement, point guard Darren Collison is looking to make a return to the hardwood in 2020. Collison is a player we have previously discussed as an option for the Boston Celtics.

As of today, his fit with the team is still one that makes sense.

For his career, the point guard holds averages of 12.5 points, five assists and 1.2 steals per game on 47% shooting from the field and 39% shooting from deep. During his final four seasons in the association he shot above 40% from long range and, in 2017-18, shot 47% from beyond the arc (league high).

Collison has ample experience as both a starter in the NBA as well as with postseason action. At 32-years-old he would fill in as a stupendous seasoned talent at the backup point guard slot as well as a veteran leader for this young and talented Boston Celtics squad (average age is around 24-years-old).

To acquire Collison, it would presumably require the C’s to give up little to no valuable assets, as they could sign him outright via free agency. With this idea in mind, then the only question is whether you’d rather have Collison or Brad Wanamaker at the team’s backup point guard slot.

"“Collison is two years older than Wanamaker but has nine more years of NBA experience. Last year and in 2011, Collison was playing starter minutes for the Indiana Pacers. His retirement was a shocker, but now that he is set to return, the Celtics should be on his radar.”"
