Is six points and four rebounds worth giving up a second round pick for? It should be when it comes to swapping out Poirier’s dead weight deal. The catch should be that the C’s would have their pick protected if it fell within the top 50.

Now look, you could find value outside of the top 50 picks in the draft. Tremont Waters was the 51st pick overall in 2019 and he may be the team’s most productive rookie this season when it is all said and done. Of course, Isaiah Thomas was the 60th pick way back in 2011.

That said, it would be a bit of a stretch to give up too much value for Damian Jones of the Atlanta Hawks. Like the Warriors and Wizards, this season is going nowhere fast for the Hawks. They are the league’s worst team, and they would be better off building for the future around Trae Young than they would be focusing on winning games this season.

That isn’t stopping them from looking to pull off an Andre Drummond trade. While they could wait until the summer, when Drummond has a player option he is likely to decline, there is an increasingly likely chance the Hawks could placate their All-Star point guard with a former All-NBA center.

…or the Hawks could land Poirier, lose more games this year and land a top pick in the NBA Draft. It isn’t clear what direction Atlanta is heading in, but the Boston Celtics are looking to win. Jones isn’t an elite option, but there is a better chance to get production out of the former NBA Champion than they would with Poirier.
