Marcus Morris hurt his ankle again in a win against the Phoenix Suns

They faced the lowest competition you can get in the league against a Phoenix Suns team without Devin Booker but, once again, the injury riddled Boston Celtics managed to continue their winning streak. Marcus Morris had a chance to get some revenge against his former team, but it did not come without a price.

Morris missed the previous game because of an injured ankle, and he had to leave this one early. There are still no indications that there are any long term issues, and Morris is confident that he will not miss any significant time.

Right now, Morris is arguably the most important scorer on the team. They are getting incredible balance from Al Horford, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Terry Rozier, but Morris has been the most prolific scorer.

More from Hardwood Houdini

The Celtics have proven that they can overcome any injuries this season, but the bottom of that bench gets scarier and scarier the longer that Morris is out. Hopefully Morris will be able to return quickly, but they still need to keep the playoffs in mind.

The Celtics know they will not have Marcus Smart or Kyrie Irving for the first round, making Morris that much more important. This is the second time we have see Morris excel on the court, while dealing with this injury.

The Celtics want him to be a part of this final playoff push, but it is more important to have him at 100 percent come playoff time. The Celtics do not want to break this momentum he has right now, but that cannot be the priority.

Morris has done more than enough to prove his worth to this team, even when they are at full strength. They desperately need his scoring, and there is even a case to be made that they do not beat the shorthanded Suns without him.

The unfortunate reality of injuries like this is that they linger. Morris will probably have to deal with this for the remainder of the season, and that could be why the Celtics hold him out longer than they need to.

They will be cautious with Morris, but not as cautious as they would be with the young stars. Morris still wants to prove he needs to be a part of the future of this team, and right now is the best chance he will get to showcase how valuable he can be, because they are giving him so much volume.

It will such to see Morris on the sidelines for any amount of games, but his importance over these last few  games means the Celtics have to be that much more cautious with the playoffs around the corner.
