The Boston Celtics got the win but had some major problems against the Denver Nuggets

The Boston Celtics got a much needed victory against the Denver Nuggets, but once again it was a wild and all too close game. The Celtics looked like they were in total control, then it fell apart and things had to go their way to close the game.

Sure, it is a lot of fun to watch these close games, because the Celtics have kept it exciting all season long. Unfortunately, the only reason these kinds of games are close are because the Celtics are not playing as well as they should, and if that does not get fixed then the playoffs could be a disappointment.

It is not always the same story when the Celtics blow their games, but most of the reoccurring issues of the season came out last night, it just to happened that Jaylen Brown hit the last shot.

First, we saw both the good and the bad with the three point shooting. It is no secret that the Celtics are going to lean a lot on threes this season, and that can be a bit scary when you look at how many borderline shooters they have. It is not as if these players should not be taking any threes, but most players on this team still are not reliable from deep.

Terry Rozier is the only player coming off the bench shooting above 35 percent from three, and that continually prevents them from maintaining consistent shooting.

More from Hardwood Houdini

The Celtics started the game incredibly hot all over the court, and they built a commanding lead. It was good enough for them to have a double digit lead going into half time, but you could see things turning by the end of the second.

The Celtics ended up shooting 47 percent from three on 36 attempts, but they did most of that work in the first half, and did not try and get easier points when they were not getting as much from the three point shot.

This game against Denver was a great example of the danger of their offense. There are a few reasons why the Celtics give up big runs, but taking too many threes has been one of the biggest. It is one of the worst ways the Celtics make things too hard on themselves, and they do not have the shooting to avoid slowing down.

Even in a game where they finished 47 percent from three, there was still that third quarter window for the Nuggets to get back into the game. Funny enough, it was a three point attempt that won the game. The Celtics continue to take this approach because they really do have shooting potential with everyone on the roster except Aron Baynes. The highest offensive potential of this team will always be from deep.

Right now, the shooters still are not where they need to be to have the proper reliability. When you see that the entire Celtics team finished with just 10 free throw attempts, it makes sense that they gave up that big run to make the game close.

The Celtics do not need to be the best three point shooting team to beat a team like the Nuggets. If they looked for easier points and dropped the attempts from three, then they would avoid the crazy ups and downs like we saw against the Nuggets.

The Celtics have been going through games like this all year long, and they have come out as arguably the best clutch team in the NBA. This is how they have been winning much of this season, and process is more important than results for Stevens right now. He sees what this team can become if all this shooting potential is reached, and getting that playing the way they do with the length and defense they have, is part of the culmination of this rebuild
