Tracy McGrady heroically helped the Celtics avoid a major Jaylen Brown crisis

This situation was already a disaster way back when, and to think it really could have gotten worse.

Jaylen Brown has definitely made his mark on the Boston Celtics franchise over the past 10 years. However, anyone who has watched Brown knows that it hasn't always been smooth sailing between him and the franchise in that time.

Brown's name has been mentioned in trade rumors over the years, but someone as intelligent as he is knows that it comes with the territory. However, there was a point in time when Brown had doubts about his future in Boston, but, from the horse's mouth, it was a conversation with NBA legend Tracy McGrady that convinced him to stay.

For context, Brown's issues in Boston resonated after the infamous 2018-19 season, when the Celtics had just come off a pretty insufferable season in which the team boasted more than enough talent to compete for a title, but internal issues and opposing player agendas got in the way of what could have (and should have) been a season for the ages.

The funny thing is, 2019 was definitely a turbulent offseason, losing Kyrie Irving and Al Horford afterward for nothing, but the following season proved that less was more, as it also gave Brown and Jayson Tatum the keys, and well, the rest was history from there.

Brown likely learned from Tracy McGrady's mistakes

Anyone who grew up watching the NBA in the 2000s knows that McGrady was considered one of the NBA's very best players who was saddled with teams too crappy for him to succeed. Anyone who took a closer look at his career also knows how unlucky he was.

He started his career with the Toronto Raptors and his cousin Vince Carter, and the two of them looked like they were about to be what the Jays became before McGrady skipped town to go join Grant Hill in Orlando, but little did he or the Magic know that Grant Hill would hardly ever. be available because of his foot problems.

The bad luck didn't stop there, as McGrady wanted off the Magic just as they had won the lottery to get Dwight Howard. He was in a better situation in Houston, but they never progressed further than his Orlando teams did, and by the time the Rockets finally assembled a title contender (getting Metta-Sandiford Artest for nothing), T-Mac's knees were toast.

Because McGrady knows what it's like to bail out of situations just before they were about to turn the corner, the wisdom he impeded unto Brown was not to follow in his footsteps. No one would have blamed Brown for wanting out of Boston after the 2019 debacle, but because he stuck with it, he's on pace to make the Hall of Fame and get his number retired by the Celtics.
