Jaylen Brown was completely justified in reaction to ejection for one key reason

Star players simply don't get tossed for arguing one play like this

The Celtics lost a tough one to the Spurs on Tuesday night in a game that had a real measuring-stick kind of feel for both teams, 125-116. But unfortunately, an otherwise excellent game was largely overshadowed by the ridiculous decision by the officials to eject Jaylen Brown in the second quarter for arguing a no-call.

Jaylen has been angry at the way he and the Celtics have been officiated all season, bringing light to it, ironically, the last time Boston played San Antonio. The Cs lost that game and only shot four free throws as a team. After the game, Brown called out the refs and suggested that every time they play a good team, they get the short end of the stick.

I’m no conspiracy theorist, but what happened on Tuesday night was a pretty strong argument for his case. Brown was getting a tough whistle throughout the half, but it was a no-call on a play when he felt he was pushed and lost the ball out of bounds, which pushed him over the edge.

The officials ruined a great game

JB snapped at the crew chief who made the call, Tyler Ford, berating him all the way up the court, yelling at him, and pointing. He was extremely upset, and whether that call was right or wrong, it’s fair to say a technical was warranted. After the T, Brown continued talking to Ford, who was allowing him to get it out, as JB wasn’t crossing the line.

At that point, the umpire, Suyash Metah, came in out of nowhere and hit Jaylen with a second technical, prompting his ejection, and leading him to completely lose his cool. Jaylen was as angry as you’ll ever see him and had to be restrained by coaches, teammates, and security before leaving the court.

Minutes later, Jaylen tweeted out, “This the s*** I be talking about”. And honestly, it is.

No other stars get ejected like this

No other star player in the league gets this bad of a whistle and this short of a leash. Guys like Luka Doncic, Draymond Green, LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, and countless others are constantly berating officials, riding them for 48 minutes, griping about every little call and no-call, and rarely, if ever, being made to pay.

Yet, when Jaylen Brown, a legitimate MVP candidate this season, pushes back against a bad whistle in a marquee game on national television against a major opponent, he quickly gets hit with two technicals by two different refs and tossed out of a two-point game before halftime.

It’s an absolute joke, and whether it’s targeted or not, JB is right. Other stars simply don’t get ejected for this kind of thing. The referees completely ruined what should have been a great game and robbed the fans of what they deserved to see.

If there’s one silver lining to this fiasco, it’s that hopefully it was such an abomination that Jaylen’s point will finally get across, the league will take notice, and things will finally start to change. It’s long overdue.
