Is Kristaps Porzingis similar to traded former Boston Celtics big?
The Boston Celtics are a little over a month into the season, and big man Kristaps Porzingis is already missing games. Porzingis has missed the last two games for the Celtics with a calf injury.
The recent development with Porzingis brings a former Cs big man to mind, Robert Williams.
At this point, it's fair to wonder if Porzingis will be similar to Williams regarding his availability.
Last season, Porzingis played 65 games for the Washington Wizards, which was an outlier for him. It was the first time in his career that he played 60 or more games since his second season in the NBA. Most Celtics fans took the bait and thought that this was the new Porzingis and that he would be as available.
Ultimately, it was all a Fugazi, as this is what Porzingis is: an unreliable flashy player.
Although Porzingis has put up tremendous stat lines early in the season, he has missed time. The same was true for Williams during his time in Boston. The Timelord would have stretches of play where he looked amazing, but then in the biggest moments, he would either be on the bench or a shell of himself on the court.
Kristaps Porzingis's injury history runs risk of rearing ugly head when Boston Celtics need him most
My biggest concern for Porzingis is that he will not be there for the Cs when it matters most this season. What I mean by that is that I fear that he will either be sidelined in the postseason or play through an injury like Williams. People forget that the Celtics did not get the best version of Williams in the last two seasons due to him playing through injuries.
The signs are evident that Porzingis could be heading down that road, which is a concern for the Cs.
