The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets face off for the third time this season on Tuesday night, and Boston has a chance to extend its lead in the Eastern Conference after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost on Monday night.

The Celtics have won four games in a row, and they are certainly a tough matchup for the Nets, who sit in the No. 11 spot in the Eastern Conference so far this season.

However, as good as the C’s have been this season, are just 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games. Does that trend continue with the team favored on the road in Brooklyn?

Celtics vs. Nets key players to watch

Boston Celtics

Jayson Tatum: So far this season, Tatum has 23 and 32-point games against the Brooklyn Nets, and he’s coming off a 26-point game in Miami on Sunday. The Celtics star has seen his numbers dip a bit with more mouths to feed, but he’s still putting up an impressive 27.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

Brooklyn Nets

Dennis Schroder: Acquired at the trade deadline, Schroder had a terrific debut with the Nets, putting up 15 points, 12 assists and three rebounds in a win over the San Antonio Spurs. This is a much tougher matchup against Boston, but Schroder is a huge upgrade for Brooklyn over Spencer Dinwiddie, who struggled mightily shooting the ball this season.

Celtics vs. Nets prediction and pick

I’m going to stay away from a side in this matchup with Boston struggling to cover, as the Nets have been far from trustworthy as home underdogs.

Brooklyn is just 6-9-2 ATS in that spot in the 2023-24 campaign.

Instead, let’s look to the OVER, as this is a favorable matchup for the Celtics’ No. 2 offense.

The first two meetings between these teams finished with 238 and 228 combined points, with Boston putting up over 128 in each game. While Boston has been a top-three defense this season, the team has slipped to seventh in defensive rating over its last 10 games, allowing some big showings – such as Friday night’s game against Washington.

Schroder and Ben Simmons give the Nets a lot more playmaking in their offense, and while the team is down Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith is back in the lineup after missing some time with an injury.

Both of the previous meetings between these teams cleared this total, so why not go for the trifecta on Tuesday night?
