BOSTON - Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday helped Raising Cane’s open their 828th location on Wednesday. Alongside Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz, singer and Rhode Island native JVKE, and Cane’s founder Todd Graves, Holiday helped open the location downtown.

Jrue Holiday, a childhood Lakers fan, joked about winning with the Celtics: 'Putting on the green was a bit weird for me'

Holiday spoke to the media at the event, and when asked about winning a title with the Celtics, he couldn’t help but laugh while reflecting on his LA roots.

“I'm from LA, and I grew up a Lakers fan. So, for one, putting on the green was a bit weird for me,” Holiday said with a smile. “Like the first day. And then, once I kind of got used to the green, we win  the championship, and it was like, against the team that-- If you hated a team as a Laker fan, it was Boston.”

Holiday grew up in Los Angeles, rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers, and attended UCLA for a year before getting drafted into the NBA.

Now, he’s a two-time champion with the Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics.

There are few cities in the world that love sports the way Boston does. That’s what makes winning a championship in the city so unique.

When Holiday helped the Celtics bring home the Larry O’Brien, he cemented himself in Boston lore forever. From the parade to the day they lift Banner 18 to 10 years down the road, his contributions will be remembered by Bostonians forever.

“From the beginning, how I ended up here, was insane in the first place,” Holiday said, reflecting on his time in Boston. “So, I think the way that the city's embraced me, and [the way I've] been able to do so many successful things in such a short amount of time, has been fitting and cool that I actually get open up this [Cane’s location] with Todd here. And just to see all this gold, it's a bit overwhelming."

The entirety of the Raising Cane’s restaurant in downtown Boston is gold. The outside is fitted with a gold wrap, and the entire interior is gold as well. It’s for the company’s golden birthday, as they turned 28 years old this year on the 28th of August.

With the help of Holiday, Ortiz, and JVKE, they got their new location off to a roaring start.
