If you loaded up social media this week, you may have stumbled upon photos and videos of Jayson Tatum’s charity golf tournament in St. Louis. The Boston Celtics star hosted the event for the sixth straight year on Monday.
There were plenty of Celtics-related golfers on the course. Tatum, of course, Derrick White, the recently signed Mike Conley, and Daniel Theis (!).

Truthfully, I can’t tell you the last time I saw Theis in any form; on the court, on social media, even in a highlight tape. I’ve missed him. I was curious if he was doing okay, even. He was one of those Celtic role players that just kind of grew on me and, by the way, started on an Eastern Conference Finals team.
The big German spent five of his eight NBA seasons with Boston. He appeared in 257 total games for Boston and averaged 7.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per outing. The Celtics traded Theis to the Indiana Pacers in the summer of 2022 in the deal that netted them Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon went onto win the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award with Boston, while Theis was waived by the Pacers after appearing in just six games.
He returned to Europe in the 2024-25 season when he joined AC Monaco Basket, and has played there ever since. Oh, and he won a gold medal at the 2025 EuroBasket tournament, ironically playing alongside his former Celtics teammate Dennis Schroder, whom Boston traded for him to begin his second stint with the team in 2022.
It’s nice to see he’s still doing well.
Mike Conley is already delivering on his good teammate identity
Also nice… seeing that Conley made the trip down to St. Louis. The longtime veteran guard joined the Celtics earlier this month ahead of his 20th NBA season. By all accounts, he’s one of the best people in the league.
Many of his former teammates have raved about him, and the soon-to-be 39-year-old is a two-time NBA Teammate of the Year winner (2018-19, 2023-24). A lot of what he’ll bring to the Celtics is simply based around good vibes and serving as a good veteran presence for some of the team’s younger players.
It's no surprise that he's already showing up for his new teammates in Boston. That's what he does.
He’ll likely still hold down a small rotational role, but nothing too crazy. Last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Conley averaged 4.5 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game on 33.5% from the field and 33.7% from beyond the arc.
