It's hard to say if Isaiah Thomas should be considered a Boston Celtics legend. His time on the team was brief (two-and-a-half seasons), but whether you consider him a legend or not, one thing is for sure: it's hard to think of another Celtic who was as universally loved and embraced by the fans as much as he was.
It's been almost a decade since Thomas last played for the Celtics, but The Sports Museum has made it clear they're not going to let anyone forget IT time. CelticsBlog's Ian Inangelo shared that Thomas' time with the Celtics has its own exhibit in Boston.

To be fair, The Sports Museum has given Thomas the shoutout he's deserved before years after his time as a Celtic ended, but here it is out in the open in all its glory.
Thomas may not be put in the same discussion as Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, or Jayson Tatum, but he didn't have to in order to leave the mark that he did in Boston. He brought back the Celtics mystique when no one saw it coming, which is why finding a Celtics fan who had anything bad to say about him is like finding the smallest needle in the world's biggest haystack.
For that same reason, everyone was so ecstatic to see Boston bring IT back to the team as a scout. Even if his playing days are gone, fans understandably remember those days quite fondly and for good reason. It may not be the same as, say, getting his number retired, but Thomas' legacy is strong enough to earn something like this at minimum.
Thomas absolutely deserves a tribute like this
It's amazing to think that only a year and a half after the Celtics signaled they were starting over when they traded Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, then two months after completing their blow-up by trading Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green, they brought in Thomas.
Confusing at first, but Thomas was quick to prove he was exactly what that team needed. It didn't matter if the Celtics weren't a title contender. They immediately became fun when no one knew when that was ever going to be in play again.
When everyone thought Boston was in for a long and painful rebuild, Thomas gave them one of the most impressive fast-risers they have ever seen, going from Sixth Man to All-Star to MVP candidate in the brief time he spent with the team.
It wasn't just how good Thomas was, but he was willing to fight through to fight for Boston. He played through his sister's tragic death and a torn labrum in his hip to get the Celtics the best possible outcome. To further cement his legacy, he put up his best performance on what would have been Chyna's birthday to help Boston go up 2-0 on Washington in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
It's why seeing the Thomas era as a brief one is looking through the wrong end of the telescope. The better way to look at it is that Celtics fans who were there don't just remember it, but remember every exact second from start to finish.
Whether you consider him a Celtics legend or not, the best way to praise that era of Celtics basketball is to say that there may never be an experience in Boston like the one they had with Isaiah Thomas.
