Isaiah Thomas finally gets chance for long-overdue happy ending with Celtics

It may not be as a player, but the King of the Fourth is back, ladies and gentlemen!

For years, everyone had hoped Isaiah Thomas would one day reunite with the Boston Celtics franchise. Well, the day has finally arrived. No, Thomas won't be on the Celtics roster, but he has now been officially re-affiliated with the Celtics.

The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach reported that Thomas will work as a pro and college scout for the Celtics.

It's amazing to think that's been over 11 years since Boston first acquired him, but once they did, he started their turnaround when many thought the rebuilding process was going to take time. Thomas unexpectedly brought respectability back to the Celtics, which led to other dominos falling like Al Horford and Gordon Hayward joining the team.

Thomas' time with the Celtics had a sad ending, but it doesn't detract from the fact that he built a strong legacy despite playing for the team for only two and a half seasons. He was a shell of his former MVP-candidate self by the time Boston traded him, but many had hoped he would one day return to the team.

Danny Ainge has never been one to let sentiment affect his decisions, and neither has Brad Stevens (even if he has brought former Celtics back in the past). So it felt as though Thomas coming back to play for the Celtics was out of the question, but now, he gets to be involved with the team again.

This is exactly what Celtics fans wanted, even if it wasn't exactly in the way they wanted it.

This is the perfect move to make many forget what happened

During a time like this, the Celtics needed this kind of news to lift up the spirits of their fanbase. There haven't been that many players in Celtics history as universally beloved as Thomas was during his time with the team, so seeing him come back will make it easier to forget what happened a week and a half ago.

For everything that could go wrong this offseason, bringing back IT, the King of the Fourth, was absolutely the right move because it inspires hope when that's come in short supply these days for the Celtics.

There have been rumors that the Celtics are going after Giannis Antetokounmpo, but there's no guarantee they will succeed even if the whispers are legitimate. Even if they succeed, there will still be questions about the roster.

Thomas may not necessarily be a difference maker for their scouting department, but he proved to be a pretty genius move, so perhaps his basketball IQ could rub off on him as a scout. Regardless, Isaiah Thomas is a Celtic again, which is music to everyone's ears in Boston.
