Giannis interest in joining Celtics may explain why no trade has happened

More intel has suggested he wants to join Boston. Could that be why he hasn't gone anywhere?

The latest updates on Giannis Antetokounmpo are that 1. the Miami Heat appear to be the frontrunners to acquire him, and 2. He wants to join the Boston Celtics. These two pieces of intel may as they could explain why a deal hasn't happened.

The Athletic's Sam Amick revealed during a chat with Chris Mannix that Antetokounmpo has questions about Miami's roster should they trade for him, while reiterating that he has legitimate interest in joining the Celtics.

Comparing Miami's offer to Boston's is pretty laughable considering who would definitely have the edge. The Heat would have to gut their roster just to get their hands on Giannis. That includes Tyler Herro along with their most promising young talent, like Jaime Jacquez and Kel'el Ware. If a deal were to happen, so much of their playoff roster would be gone.

Boston has Jaylen Brown, and that's all you need to get it done. In South Beach, Antetokounmpo would be joining forces with Bam Adebayo, and that's it. In Beantown, the two-time MVP would be joining forces with Jayson Tatum and Derrick White on a team that's not only beaten him multiple times in the playoffs, but has won a championship only two years ago.

It's pretty easy to understand why the two-time MVP would want Boston. If he became a Celtic, he'd be on a contender while playing with one of the league's best players. In Miami, that might not be the case.

Bucks might simply be waiting to see if Celtics are willing to compromise

We've gotten mixed signals on whether Boston is in on Giannis. Last month, Shams Charania said they have. Two days ago, Jake Fischer said they don't. Miami being in the lead, with no deal struck, may indicate that Milwaukee is willing to wait to see whether Boston wants to go all in on Giannis in the next few weeks

The fact of the matter is, despite Giannis being a better player than Brown, Milwaukee would get more out of Brown from a three-team deal than they would for Giannis in a swap with Miami specifically. The Bucks are trading for Antetokounmpo with the intention of rebuilding, so there's no need for someone like Brown, but plenty of teams with assets would want him.

The fact that they're not at the moment simultaneously shows that they believe in their current core but also that they just might be mulling over their options because this is a rare opportunity on their hands.

Antetokounmpo is better than Brown, and if all it takes is Brown alone, that's tempting, but there would be questions. For the Celtics, it might just be nice to know that the prettiest girl at the dance wants to dance with them, but because she looks like she might be a little sick, it might not be the easiest decision.
