The Boston Celtics added Payton Pritchard to their injury report ahead of Monday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons. Pritchard is listed as questionable to play due to a right neck spasm. The Celtics point guard has yet to miss a game this season, having started in all 25 of Boston’s contests.
Jayson Tatum is also still listed on the Celtics’ injury report, as he has missed the entire season thus far while recovering from his ruptured Achilles, which he suffered in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. Despite some ongoing optimism due to video updates of his recovery process, there is still no set date for Tatum’s potential return.
UPDATE: Pritchard was upgraded to AVAILABLE roughly 90 minutes before tip-off.
Other than Tatum and Pritchard, the Celtics’ injury report is clear.
Payton Pritchard added to Celtics injury report vs. Pistons
Despite Pritchard’s addition to the injury report, Pritchard was seen at Celtics shootaround on Monday morning. He was practicing contested layups with Amile Jefferson and other assistant coaches.
Prior to the Celtics’ last game—a Thursday night loss to the Milwaukee Bucks—there were three additional players listed on the injury report. All are healthy now.
Chris Boucher, Amari Williams, and Ron Harper Jr. all missed the game. Boucher was out due to a non-COVID illness, Williams was dealing with a hairline fracture in his right hand, and Harper had a right knee sprain.
Williams and Harper, both of whom are on two-way contracts this season, got injured in the Maine Celtics’ game against the College Park Skyhawks last Sunday.
All three are now clear of any injuries, though Harper has been re-assigned to Maine. He and Max Shulga are out on Monday, on assignment with the G League squad.
Williams, on the other hand, is questionable to play due to G League assignment, so there’s a chance that he will be with the big club on Monday. He was in Boston for shootaround, so the chance that he will be active seems likely.
As for the Pistons, they are rocking a clean injury report heading into Monday night. The only players who are out are those on G League assignment with the Motor City Cruise, which includes Wendell Moore Jr. (who was with Boston for training camp), Tolu Smith, Bobi Klintman, and Isaac Jones.
Should Pritchard miss the Celtics’ game against the Pistons, it will be the first time all season Boston has had to roll out a lineup without him at point guard for the first five.
Derrick White would probably slide down to the one, leaving room for Sam Hauser or Josh Minott to step into the first five. Either that or Anfernee Simons could replace Pritchard at the point guard position.
