Celtics fans should get a kick out of Warriors' Kristaps Porzingis plans

As electric as he was, it's fair to say they bailed from him at the right time.

Kristaps Porzingis was a fan favorite in his brief stint with the Boston Celtics, but it's become clear he's an even riskier asset than he was when they first acquired him back in 2023. He was always an injury risk, but his ongoing health problems, unfortunate as they are, on top of that, prove that they were right to get out from under him when they had the chance.

With that said, it's great to see that Porzingis will still continue his career anyway, and apparently, it will continue with his current team, the Golden State Warriors, as The Athletic's Marcus Thompson revealed that he anticipates Porzingis will re-sign with them this offseason, per the Warriors Plus Minus podcast.

"I absolutely, as we're sitting here right now, believe that Porzingis and the Warriors will work something out where we will see him again next season in a Warriors jersey," Thompson said.

No one's rooting against Porzingis, but Celtics fans can't help but laugh at this. For as good as Porzingis was when he was on the floor in Boston, he hardly ever came through for them when things mattered most. He had his moments during Banner 18, but even with the few times he shone, fans must admit Boston managed to go on a title run even without his services.

Yes, he won them an NBA Finals game, but they likely would have won that game and the series anyway. And when he actually did consistently play in the playoffs the next season, it was clear he couldn't handle it.

It's fair to point out that it's not Porzingis' fault, but the decision to part ways with him has only looked smarter for the Celtics as more time has passed. The fact that the Warriors want to invest in him now that he's become a bigger risk than ever is kind of laughable to the Celtics, who took that same risk back when it was more justifiable.

The Warriors are more desperate now than the Celtics were then

When Porzingis has been on the floor for the Warriors, he has looked quite good. But that's exactly the problem.

Porzingis has played in only 10 games for Golden State this summer (27 overall this season!), but he is on the one team desperately grasping at straws to keep their relevance while they still can. They still held enough appeal to convince Al Horford to join them, but their desperation has onyl been amplified with how many injuries they've had to go through this season.

The fact that their resolution to their problems is to re-sign the one player whose calling card is his inability to stay on the floor only further shows how low on options they are.

The Porzingis era in Boston was fun and all, but almost three years later, stories like these should make Celtics Nation laugh because trading for him was so 2023!
