The Boston Celtics brought in three solid players at the 2025 NBA Draft. In the first round, they selected Spanish wing Hugo Gonzalez with the No. 28 pick. Then, in the second round, after a trade with the Orlando Magic that swapped pick No. 32 for four seconds, they made two more picks.
Two of the picks Boston got back from Orlando were later in the round, meaning they got to make selections at No. 46 and No. 57. First, they took Kentucky big man Amari Williams, and with one of the final picks in the draft, they took VCU guard Max Shugla.
But that’s not where the action stopped.
Celtics busy filling out Summer League roster
Now that the draft has come and gone, the Celtics have been working on filling out their Summer League roster. VP of Basketball Operations Mike Zarren spoke after the draft, noting that most of the front office stuck around after the second round wrapped up in an attempt to plan some of their Summer League additions.
Since then, they’ve made some moves to begin that process, on top of the guys who were already planning on playing.
Baylor Scheierman, Miles Norris, and Jordan Walsh will almost certainly join the Celtics’ second-round rookies at Summer League, while Drew Peterson and Gonzalez are yet to be confirmed.
On top of that, the Celtics made a couple of signings.
Celtics sign Aaron Scott for Summer League
Reported by Zach Braziller of the NY Post.
Aaron Scott spent this past season at St. John’s after three years of basketball at North Texas. The 6-foot-7 wing was a solid shooter prior to transferring, but his efficiency tailed off this past year.
This past season, the 21-year-old averaged 8.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while shooting 38.9% and 29.3% from behind the three-point line on 4.8 attempts per contest. However, in his sophomore and junior seasons at North Texas combined, Scott shot 38.1% from deep on 2.3 three-point attempts per game.
Celtics sign Ben Gregg to Summer League roster
Reported by Theo Lawson of The Spokesman-Review.
Ben Gregg played five years of college basketball at Gonzaga. His minutes increased in every season he spent there, but they dipped off in his senior year. The 22-year-old is listed at 6-foot-10.
As a senior, Gregg averaged 9.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 57.1% from the floor and 27.1% from beyond the three-point line on 2.0 attempts per contest. However, in the four seasons leading up to his senior year, Gregg shot 36.7% from deep range on 1.8 attempts per game.
