It hasn’t been a pretty last few weeks for the Boston Celtics. Some rough losses and inconsistent play have begun to pile up, whether it be poor three-point shooting or confusing defensive choices. They’ve gone 8-7 in their last 15 games, and while they are still second in the East, their level of play has taken a dip.
Parts of their game have been acceptable, but when matched with subpar performances in other areas, it hasn’t led to acceptable results. And while all that has been going on, the Celtics have been dealing with some off-the-court talk, too. Well, Jayson Tatum has, at least.
Here is the latest in the world of Boston Celtics news.
Jayson Tatum discusses Brandon Jennings
Brandon Jennings made waves lately by calling Tatum the softest superstar in Celtics history on a recent episode of Gil’s Arena. A few days later, Tatum mocked the statement on his Instagram.
When asked about his decision to respond, Tatum kept his answer simple.
“I don’t know,” Tatum said with a wry smile. “I had some time yesterday.”
Tatum usually isn’t one to shed light on the slander that comes his way, and when he does, it’s usually in a very subtle way.
The tipping point in Celtics vs. Kings
Boston lost to the De’Aaron Fox-less Sacramento Kings on Friday night, and it was ugly. They weren’t hitting their shots and by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, they were losing it on the defensive end.
Bobby Manning of CLNS Media pointed out one possession in the fourth quarter that was the tipping point of when everything went truly wrong for the Celtics.
A defensive miscommunication ended with Malik Monk getting a wide-open three, and when the rebound bounced out to Domantas Sabonis, he was left open, too.
It was a disastrous moment, and the Celtics got demolished for the rest of the game.
Kristaps Porzingis confident in bounce-back
Highlighted by their loss to the Kings on Friday, the Celtics haven’t been where they want to be. It’s no secret. But just because they aren’t playing well doesn’t mean they are losing faith in who they are as a team.
After the loss to Sacramento, Kristaps Porzingis said that he’s confident in the Celtics’ ability to get back on track.
“We’ll figure it out,” Porzingis said. “I’m telling you. I’m confident we’ll bounce back. We’re just having not the prettiest moment as a team, and it’s completely normal. I don’t need to be negative. Believe me, we’ll figure it out.”
