It’s official, the Boston Celtics 2025-26 City Edition uniform has arrived. The team announced the launch of its “Gold Standard” threads on social media on Wednesday. Leaked photos of the new alternates surfaced online earlier this month, but we now know that the design is confirmed.

The new threads feature a white base, with gold lettering and numbers outlined in black. The sides of the torso will have a three-color stripe of gold, black, and white, while the neck and arm holes will feature gold trim.

Though it’s a bit strange for a Celtics uniform to be without any green at all, these aren’t bad jerseys. It helps that the 2024-25 City Editions were a monstrosity, so following that isn’t the most difficult of tasks.

Also, the "timeless tradition of winning" line goes extremely hard.

Other teams have blown the Celtics' alternates out of the water

With many teams starting training camp this week or next, there have been plenty of alternate uniform reveals around the association. The Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Washington Wizards are just a few of the teams dominating the fashion headlines (my Twitter/X feed).

Philadelphia is rolling out their old Allen-Iverson era throwbacks this season in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the team’s last NBA Finals appearance in 2001. Has it really been that long?? The classic look is one that the Sixers’ fanbase has been clamoring for for quite some time. It’s nice to see something good finally happen to them.

Minnesota is taking a similar route. They’ve decided to roll out their tree-themed throwbacks in the wake of the Kawhi Leonard, Aspiration Tree Planting, cap circumvention scandal. In all seriousness, these jerseys are very cool and should probably just become the standard uniforms if we’re being honest.

Washington’s City Editions blend the past and present in a hybrid design. The threads combine the late 2000s gold and black colorway with the striped design that the Wizards have used for the past 14 years or so. It’s certainly not as much of a hit as the above two designs, but it’s a nice change of pace from some putrid jerseys over the past few years.

If I had to rank them, it’d go Minnesota, Philly, Washington, then Boston. Those Timberwolves jerseys might be the best the franchise has had, the Sixers' standard unis are better than the throwbacks, the Wizards’ are cool but nothing special, and the Celtics could’ve done better.

If you're Boston, it's tough to top the classic home and away designs. They've got so much history behind them and the simplicity is too clean.
