It’s an annual tradition at this point. Early September rolls around, and Boston Celtics fans get their first glimpse at the team’s “City Edition” uniform for the upcoming season. The preseason leak for the 2025-26 campaign came on Saturday evening.
Celtics fan account, “Green Runs Deep,” shared a photo of the likely design, which features a white base, gold lettering and numbers, with black trim.

While this isn’t an official release, this account has previously leaked the accurate design in years prior.
Judging the newest Celtics threads isn’t easy, especially considering the monstrosity that Nike gave the team last year. The “Action Green” jerseys were a curse from the get-go, and should’ve never been greenlit. Boston’s fanbase should’ve been able to predict the disastrous second-round exit as soon as the team put those ugly things on.
Sheesh.
Essentially, the designers had nowhere to go except up this season.
They did that, for sure. How high up did they go, though?
Well, for starters, you may have noticed that the written description of these unis didn’t include the color green. It’s a bit odd for the Celtics to have no green at all in a design, right?
The first thing that comes to mind when I look at it is the New Orleans Saints. Maybe Vanderbilt University? It’s too bad Luke Kornet isn’t on the team anymore to rock the colors of his alma mater.
Despite the lack of green, it’s not a bad jersey by any means. I’m sure that whenever the official release happens, it’ll come with a brief paragraph describing the lore behind the design, which will likely tie the gold to the franchise’s record 18 NBA Championships.
The black accent is strange, though. Designers could’ve easily replaced that with a dark green and made these feel more like Celtics uniforms.
With that being said, I’d probably give these a 6/10. Not bad, not great either.
This leak could lead to a massive win for the Celtics down the line
Celtics-wise, the design is pretty similar to the famed St. Patrick’s uniforms, with the main difference being the white base instead of the old green one.
As Barstool Sports’ Dan Greenberg aptly pointed out, the leak is a massive tease for those of us who have been awaiting the return of the St. Pat’s jerseys.

Now, there’s no guarantee, but Nike does like to recolor some designs year to year. For example, the Miami Heat received three or four different colorways of their “Vice City” uniforms. Should they pursue the same idea with Boston’s new threads, maybe they’d release the design with a green base.
For now, I’ll just keep dreaming.
