According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has received injections in his right knee in an attempt to aid the injury that has been plaguing him for the past few weeks. “Celtics All-Star forward Jaylen Brown received pain management injections in his troublesome right knee this week in an effort to promote healing before Boston begins its title defense, league sources told ESPN,” Shelburne wrote.
She also added a direct answer regarding his status for the postseason: “Brown is expected to be ready for the start of the Celtics' first-round playoff series either April 19 or 20, sources said.”
That tidbit of information is key.
Jaylen Brown injury update: Celtics star getting injections in knee to help issue for playoffs
For weeks, speculation ran rampant regarding the actual status of Brown’s injury. Along the way, most believed he was simply trying to reach the NBA’s 65-game minimum to qualify for NBA Awards, even though he stated directly that was not his intention.
After missing Boston’s game against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night, Brown has officially been taken out of those conversations, as he will not finish the season with at least 65 games played.
When asked about the injury after the Celtics’ win over the Phoenix Suns on April 6, Brown stated that while “it sucks,” he and his team had some plans for the postseason (which presumably are the injections reported by Shelburne).
“We'll see,” Brown said when asked about handling the heavy physical toll of the playoffs. “I'm still learning, and I'm still hoping that—We've got some stuff that we're looking to do to make myself feel a lot better going into the playoffs. I'm still learning. So, every day, I'm just taking it one day at a time. Obviously, I haven't felt my best over the last couple of days, the last couple of weeks. But you kind of just got to roll with the punches, I guess.
“It is what it is. It sucks. I wish I could share more details, but whatever my team needs, whatever I can do, whatever I got, I'm gonna give. So, I'm looking forward to just taking it one day at a time, and I'm hopeful that some things will improve over the course of these next two weeks or so.”
Now, with a little over a week until the start of the playoffs, Brown will have even more time to prepare himself for whatever conditions lie in wait for him regarding his knee.
