Celtics Injury Report vs. Raptors: RJ Barrett, Horford, Porzingis, and more
By Jack Simone
In their first game back on home soil, the Boston Celtics absolutely dominated the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night. It was a great welcome-home gift for the fans who made the trip to TD Garden, even if the Sixers decided to bench most of their regular rotation players. Now, the Celtics face a back-to-back against the Toronto Raptors.
Toronto is in town for Sunday night’s game, but both sides are dealing with some ailments. Obviously, Kristaps Porzingis won’t be available for the Celtics until around December, and there are some question marks around Al Horford’s potential availability on Sunday, too. The Raptors also have some guys who may not play.
Here are the injury reports for the Celtics’ preseason game against the Raptors on Sunday, October 13.
Celtics injury report vs. Raptors on October 13
- Kristaps Porzingis OUT (foot)
- Al Horford OUT (rest)
- Jayson Tatum OUT (rest)
- Jaylen Brown OUT (rest)
- Derrick White OUT (rest)
- Luke Kornet OUT (rest)

- RJ Barrett OUT (shoulder)
- Bruce Brown OUT (knee)
- Ja’Kobe Walter OUT (shoulder)*
- Immanuel Quickley DAY-TO-DAY (thumb)**
As noted, Porzingis isn’t expected back on the court until the end of the calendar year, so he won’t be making a surprise WWE entrance into Boston’s final preseason game at TD Garden this year.
As for Horford, his status for the contest is very much up in the air. The veteran big man hasn’t played in a preseason game yet this season, but Joe Mazzulla has repeatedly stated that he is healthy and the Celtics are simply ramping him up.
That said, Mazzulla did say that he definitely plans on playing Horford in at least one preseason game, and that game will be on the road on Tuesday against the Raptors. “Yeah, he'll play on Tuesday. He's good. He's ready to go,” Mazzulla said on Sunday night before Boston's preseason game against the Raptors. “Ramping him up, getting [him] in shape, working hard. So, he'll play on Tuesday in Toronto.”
For Toronto, both Bruce Brown and RJ Barrett are definitely out for Sunday’s tilt against the Celtics. Brown underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on October 8. He will be re-evaluated roughly three weeks from that date. Meanwhile, a shoulder issue will hold Barrett out of the remainder of Toronto’s preseason schedule.
Rookie Ja’Kobe Walter (*) was ruled out of the Raptors’ game against the Wizards on Friday, so he is still listed on the injury report. However, there has been no official update regarding his status for Sunday’s game.
The same can be said for Immanuel Quickley (**), who was questionable to play against the Washington Wizards on Friday and is still listed on the report. He did not end up playing against Washington.
