The offseason is over. Training camp has come and gone. The preseason is done. The NBA regular season is back, and the Boston Celtics get to kick off the year with a game against the New York Knicks on Opening Night. That said, the game itself will be the subplot of the evening, as Boston is raising Banner 18 into the sky before tip-off.

But once the action begins, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will get their first look at the new-look Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, who the team traded for in the midst of training camp. Both sides have high hopes this season, and it all starts on Tuesday night.

Here is the Celtics injury report for their Opening Night game against the Knicks on Tuesday, October 22.

  • Mitchell Robinson OUT (ankle)
  • Precious Achiuwa OUT (hamstring)
  • Kevin McCullar Jr. OUT (knee)

According to Celtics PR, Kristaps Porzingis is the only player listed on the team’s injury report heading into Opening Night vs. the Knicks. He is still recovering from offseason surgery to repair an injury in his knee and won’t be back on the court until around the turn of the calendar year.

As for their East Coast colleagues, the big-man position will be looking slim.

Mitchell Robinson has had two ankle procedures within the past year, and though he was initially projected to return sooner, he’s not expected to be back until January of 2025.

Losing him is a huge blow to New York’s depth, especially since they traded Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo in the deal to land Towns.

To make matters worse, Precious Achiuwa is also slated to be out on Opening Night, meaning the Knicks’ go-to backup center will likely be Jericho Sims.

Achiuwa suffered a left hamstring strain in the Knicks’ final preseason game against the Washington Wizards. He is reportedly going to be re-evaluated two to four weeks from the time of the issue.

Lastly, rookie Kevin McCullar Jr. is also listed as out for the contest as he deals with a knee ailment.

Despite missing Porzingis, Boston’s starting lineup will almost certainly be the same one that secured Banner 18 at the end of last season: Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Brown, Tatum, and Al Horford.

Meanwhile, the Knicks are projected to roll out a starting five of Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and Towns.
