3 Former Celtics destined to get traded this year (and potential landing spots)

These former Bostonians could be on the move very soon.

The Boston Celtics are going to have an extremely boring trade deadline this season. Last year, they added Jaden Springer and Xavier Tillman, and this year, they may do even less. Outside of potentially dumping Springer’s contract, expect the Celtics to stay put once the deadline comes around.

That said, there could be some former Celtics on the move. In fact, one has already been traded. Dennis Schroder, who played for the Celtics during the 2021-22 season, was dealt from the Brooklyn Nets to the Golden State Warriors. But there could be some more former Bostonians on the move this year.

Here are three former Celtics players destined to be moved at the deadline this year.

1. Malcolm Brogdon

Even though he’s probably not playing at his peak right now, Malcolm Brogdon is still a solid NBA player. And since the Washington Wizards are trying to land Cooper Flagg, they should want to ditch him.

Brogdon’s ball-handling and shooting would be a nice addition to most lineups (though his shooting hasn’t been super efficient this season).

That said, it could be for some teams to trade for Brogdon. He’s making $22.5 million, which could be tough to match, but he’s on the last year of his deal, so teams wouldn’t be making a long-term commitment.

Potential landing spots: Orlando Magic, LA Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers

2. Javonte Green

Perhaps some Celtics fans may have forgotten about Javonte Green. He didn’t play in Boston for long and wasn’t a huge contributor, but few players throw down dunks like Green does.

Since leaving Boston, he’s been a solid NBA contributor. The New Orleans Pelicans have no reason to keep him around, especially if teams around the league feel like he could help them.

Green’s three-point shot isn’t amazing, but he’s a great athlete and an efficient scorer. He’s also a very impressive cutter, which is an underrated skill set in the league today.

Potential landing spots: Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns

3. Kelly Olynyk

Who remembers the glory days when Kelly Olynyk took down the Washington Wizards in Game 7 in the 2027 NBA Playoffs? It’s been a while since then, but Olynyk is still a rotation player in the NBA.

Unfortunately for Olynyk, he’s on the Toronto Raptors right now, and while he may enjoy playing in his hometown, he’s not exactly in a place to be winning games at the moment.

Any squad who wants to add a quality big man should be looking Olynyk’s way. His three-point shooting and underrated playmaking would be very useful.

Potential landing spots: San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers
