After two new Boston Celtics players joined the injury report on Saturday, there have been significant updates to the situation. Jaylen Brown has been upgraded to available, as has Derrick White. Brown was originally questionable, while White was probable to play. Luka Garza has also been upgraded to available, and Jayson Tatum remains out.
As for the Detroit Pistons, the same three players who were projected to be on the injury report have stayed there. Jaden Ivey is out for Sunday afternoon’s contest. Caris LeVert and Marcus Sasser are both out, downgraded from the doubtful status that they had before the contest.
The injury bug is hitting early this year.
Celtics vs. Pistons injury report 10/26
Here is the Celtics injury report ahead of their game against the Pistons:
- Jaylen Brown - Left Hamstring Strain Reconditioning - AVAILABLE
- Luka Garza - Concussion Protocol - AVAILABLE
- Jayson Tatum - Right Achilles Repair - OUT
- Derrick White - Right Wrist Sprain - AVAILABLE
Here is the Pistons injury report:
- Jaden Ivey - Arthroscopic Procedure on Right Knee - OUT
- Marcus Sasser - Hip - OUT
- Caris LeVert - Hamstring - OUT
Obviously, Tatum is going to remain out for the majority of the season, if not the entire year, after rupturing his Achilles in the Celtics’ second-round series against the New York Knicks last year.
However, Brown and White are new additions to the injury report, popping up ahead of Sunday’s matinee game.
Brown was on the report before the Celtics’ season opener vs. the Philadelphia 76ers due to a hamstring strain he suffered in Boston’s final preseason game vs. the Toronto Raptors. However, he was not listed on the IR for the Celtics’ game against the Knicks on Friday night.
Joe Mazzulla noted that Brown's hamstring issue will be managed for the time being. "It will be managed as daily depending on how he feels after each game," Mazzulla said pre-game in Detroit.
White’s write issue showed up on the report for the first time this season, and it’s unclear where he sustained the injury. He was originally listed as probable but was upgraded to available the morning of the game.
As for Garza, he took a shot to the head in Boston’s Opening Night affair vs. Philly. He exited the game due to concussion protocol and missed the game vs. New York, but he’ll be back in Detroit.
Amidst their 0-2 start, the Celtics will need as much health luck as possible if they want to turn things around and continue to implement the new play styles they want to enforce on both ends of the floor.
If players start joining the injury report on a regular basis, they could end up riding a very slippery slope.
